improving security with proxy and guest intrreactions

Post by liorme »

i'm trying to improve security in an existing customer

situation today :
all vmware vms
backup jobs and replication jobs between hosts

3 proxies
about 40 networks, some of them having the need to do application backups
1 vmware management network

nowdays, when i want to do guest processing for a vlan, i add a nic to one of the proxies, and select it as the guest interaction proxy. so far so good.
the problem (in my eyes), is that the proxy as actually a vm that can gain access to multiple network, which pose a security risk

so how can i improve security here? if i need guest interaction, how can i secure it? in a large environment, it doesn't make sense to setup a proxy for each vlan, right?

thank you

Guest processing can be performed over VIX networkless connection.

It happens automatically if direct network connection is not available. Here is a similar thread for more info.
