HDD %100 Full

Post by arif »

Hello,

We have 2X 2TB hard drives in total.
But when we start the backup with the scheduled task, the disks become full.

What kind of configuration should we do? I just don't want the %100 HDD to fill.

CRONJob1> VM TOTAL Size 1.43TB, Capacity 2TB
Incremantal
Restore Point Keep On Disk> 21 Days
Monthly, Active Full Backup Fourth Friday

CRONJob2> VM TOTAL Size 1.89TB, Capacity 2TB
Incremantal
Restore Point Keep On Disk> 21 Days
Monthly, Active Full Backup Second Friday

All other values not specified are configured by default.

I would appreciate if you help.

Hi Arif!

Your current settings are going to have 2 Active full backups -- assuming a good compression/dedup ratio, you might get 700 GB for a Full backup, but I'd round up to 1 TB personally to be safe.

Disable the periodic Active Fulls. You likely don't need them, and it's kind of an older idea of backups.

If you really want Full backups, then format your drives as ReFS and enable Synthetic Fulls -- the block-clone savings should help you here.

Keep in mind though, your VMs are a fair size, and your Repositories are very small - you might want to scale your Restore Points down a bit to give yourself some space.

I would also recommend checking this storage space consumption calculator. Thanks!
