Building New B&R server

Post by gvysk »

I have built up a R720xd with a 13tb raid 10 (1.2tb SAS drives). Looking to add MD1220 with more 1.2tb drives when needed. I presently have a 3 server hyper-v cluster and around 6 other physical servers. Storage at present is an older Equallogic SAN. I am also preparing a 3 server Vsan cluster using R730xd. The plan is to migrate everything over to that. I have 2 domain controllers and an application server I may keep physical. Have moved to exchange online so no longer have to worry about an exchange server. The mailboxes are backed up in the cloud. Will it make more sense to run the backup server as a esxi VM with server 2019 since I will have a Vsan? Running it as a physical server will save me the esxi license cost.

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

I would go with a physical Windows installation for the backup server. All-in-one without domain. Just standalone to avoid any chicken-egg issues and secured as much as possible.

Best regards,
Hannes
