Interesting bug with SQL restore

Post by spiritie »

Hi Veeam forums

Today I stumbled onto a fun little bug that took me a while to find.

We've almost just implemented Veeam and wanted to test a SQL restore.
We wanted to restore an SQL DB to another server, but it kept hanging on 100% with "dismounting" message.

I found in the event viewer, around 1000 entries, all almost the same:
The application \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\Taskmgr.exe with process id 17564 stopped the removal or ejection for the device SCSI\Disk&Ven_VEEAM&Prod_VIRTUAL-DISK\1&1c121344&0&000000.

A Colleague of mine had his task manager opened and this prevented Windows from dismounting the disks.

VBR = 9.5.4.2866
Target SQL server for restore: Server 2016

This is properly more a Windows bug right?

Regards.

Hi, I highly doubt its from the Task Manager. Suggest you investigate it with support. Thanks!

Hi Gostev

Around 10 seconds after he closed his Task Manager, Veeam reported back an successful restore,
this was after the job had hung for around 30-45 minutes.

I don't think we will pursue a support case on this, since we've already resolved the issue.
