DFS Namespace Support?

Post by soncscy »

Hi all,

Strange question from a client I just don't know the answer to -- are NAS FileShare Backups able to source from DFS Namespaces?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previo ... namespaces

Reading up on Microsoft's articles, I get the impression DFS Namespaces are "special" and we shouldn't treat them like standard CIFS/SMB, but the presented path is a standard UNC path.

My client is getting tons of Access Denied errors despite their claim that the account has full access, and I'm just not sure if this is expected as DFS is unique or if we should open a support ticket.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hello,
yes, NAS backup should work from DFS.

Please open a case and post the case number for reference.

Best regards,
Hannes

Just to clarify: you can select specific folders from the DFS but we wont backup DFS structure (once the recovery is required - you need to make sure that target path is valid, otherwise restore wont work).

Regarding the original problem, likely the issue with permissions, for example completely unexpected but 'very popular' issue with DFS: https://techstat.net/dfs-fix-adding-fol ... ss-denied/
