Support of Application Items Restore from Nutanix AHV VM backup data

Post by Tos »

Hi

Our prospect customer want to run backup Exchange VM and Oracle VM on Nutanix AHV.
They also want to run restoring Application Items of Exchange and Oracle from backup data.
We have question,

#1
Could Veeam support Oracle Application Items Restore from Nutanix AHV VM backup data ?
(Beacause the following page did not include Oracle.)
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/van/u ... tml?ver=20

#2
Are there any limitations or restrictions of Application Items Restore from Nutanix AHV VM backup data ?
For example, restore item to Original Location etc….
(Because in Veeam for AHV 1.0, File-level restore do not support restoring files and folders to original location.)

Let me know.

Hello @Tos ,

In v2 you can freely restore files to original VM during FLR and Application Item restores. Both of them works from snapshots and backups. To do so, you will need an AHV plug-in installed

Oracle Application Items Restore will work too.

Only limitation that there can be, is that all of Application Item data will be collected using heuristics, so collecting all data can take some time.

The only thing I missing from Veeam Nutanix Backup is Transaction Log truncation.
Nutanix Tools are doing application consistent snapshots, but they won‘t to Log truncation.

Because of that, I have to backup my mssql and exchange Server with Veeam Agent for Windows.

Counted as a feature request.

Thanks!

Hi @Ptide

Thank you

A nice Feature would be the same Integration "Guest Application Aware" proccessing like on vsphere/hyperv backups.
In my understanding, "Guest Application Aware Processing" ist controlled by Veeam VBR Server and doesn't need the virtualisation Software todo anything, except to deliver ip/hostname for Veeam VBR to connect to the Admin share.

This Feature/function should be portable to Nutanix AHV Backups for the next Version. :-)

Current APIs do not allow us to interact with Guest operating system - and we need this to install run-time application processing service. Without it we cannot enable proper application-aware processing.

So, if you really want to see this feature, it might make sense to submit your feature request to Nutanix team.

Thanks!

„ we need this to install run-time application processing service“

It would be nice to have the same veeam run-time application for „ahv“ backup as you use it already on vsphere backup.

I don‘t talk about a similar feature to VIX.
