vSphere 7.0 support
[TL;DR] Official vSphere 7 support requires Veeam Backup & Replication 10 Cumulative Patch 2 or later > KB3161
Dear colleagues,
vSphere 7.0 will be released soon ( at the moment RC ) - hopefully Veeam is already working on adapting its software to the new version of VMware, and then it's not serious to wait a few months after the release of VMware vSphere...
P.S. and eventually make full support for ipv6. Today 2019 or almost 2020

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
Hi John,
According to our quality standards, support for every the new platform release requires full regression testing performed against the GA bits. Based on the past experience, the difference between RC and GA bits can be significant - so our commitment has always been to support new platform within 90 days after GA. This gives our developers enough time to address any last minute changes, and perform the full regression cycle with the final platform support code.
However, I do hope you're not seriously considering to jump on vSphere 7.0 in your production environment on the first days of its availability anyway - but only after it gets sufficient validation in the field?
Thanks!
P.S. and yes, we have access to pre-release builds.

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
Not according to the information I have through the official VMware partner communication. However, it was under NDA, so unfortunately I cannot share the details on their target dates for GA. I'm sure you'll be able to get those through your VMware sales rep though.
Other than that, I agree with Vitaly: it's NOT waiting for sufficient validation of any new major platform release for a few months (ideally until the first update) before adopting that I personally classify "not serious" approach to enterprise IT. And I know I'm very much not alone with this thinking

Unless there is some new feature in v7.0 that you absolutely cannot live without, I'd really recommend that you wait for v7.0 Update 1 (i.e. service pack #1) before thinking about putting it into Production use. I have never, ever regretted waiting a long time before upgrading. Let other people find the bugs.

Now i want that Release Candidate for my Lab
And even so, especially since 7.0 is a major release change i would seriously wait to update the production environment.

Scratch that - May 1 is the day. Sorry. I got these emails that made it seem like it was already out.

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
So, that's the second false start already
In general, v10 includes support for the latest vSphere 7.0 RC build that was available at the time. But as usual, we'll need to perform full regression testing on the generally available vSphere 7.0 build before we can declare the official support.
Thanks!

Re: Veeam and VMWare 7.0
I think, I heard that Veeams Policy is to support new product versions within 90 days after release (not beta, RTM/GA release).
Please wait with update of your clusters until official statement and support from veeam folks
They will not have an official release date yet.

Yup; please check the response from our product management here:

In short, we are ready, we just need to validate that everything is compatible

Hi All,
Is there any comment regarding the following statement in the Release notes:
-->
Deprecation of Image-Based Backup and Restore Support for vCenter Server
Image-based backup and restore for vCenter Server is deprecated in vCenter Server 7.0 and will not be supported in a future vSphere release.
-->

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
Even though I'm a Veeam employee, this is just my personal opinion. It seems VMware only want you to backup in a file based way: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphe ... D7EA4.html . What I would do is just setup a small VM that acts like a fileserver, schedule a backup to that server in VCSA and then backup that VM with Veeam Backup & Replication. In can you need to recover, you can just spin up the VM, redeploy a VCSA and import the backup as stated by VMware.

That‘s always there commitment/policy.
No reason to ask about a date

[MERGED] Is it too early to upgrade only the VCSA from 6.7 to 7.0
Only upgrade the VCSA (Not the ESX hosts) to 7.0. No issue with current 6.7 at all just asking

I would wait for official support, as to the best of my knowledge, Veeam has not announced that 7.0 is fully supported.

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
To clarify this a little further:
• Normally, it takes 2 weeks to complete the full regression testing and ensure the GA build didn't break anything.
• But *IF* we determine that code changes are required to support this new vSphere build, then it is up to 90 days.

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
As a heads up, so far our regression testing has identified an issue with hotadd transport mode in Replica Failback and Quick Migration functionalities used against vSphere 7 hosts. These operations may fail with "The file is locked or in use" error. Our developers will be researching this issue now. But for those who have already upgraded to vSphere 7, you can use network transport mode (NBD) as a workaround.

Hi Gostev, based your post it seems that general backup and restore functionality seems to be working with vsphere 7. Can you confirm?

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
Hi, Grant. It's too early to say, need to wait for the full regression testing cycle to complete. We're still only half way through, so potentially there can be more issues. Thanks!

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
We took a little more time with the regression testing, because we identified one other "last minute" major API change in vSphere 7 which broke our other product (Veeam Management Pack). So we came back to looking closer at the corresponding functionality, but luckily this particular change did not impact Veeam Backup & Replication at all.
At this point, we have finished the regression testing for all standard configurations, and found no other major issues except the one I already mentioned above. We also validated the way to address this issue relatively quickly by re-using the code we already have for VMware VSAN support.
As such, our current plan is as follows:
1. We will deliver the "quick" fix for the identified issue as a part of the Cumulative Patch 2, so that we could declare official vSphere 7 support. This fix is not going to be "ideal", as it reduces performance of the impacted operations, but it does the job and can be delivered fast, since it reuses the existing already tested code, allowing us to ship the patch fast (early-mid May).
2. We will deliver the "ideal" fix as a part of v11. We already know how to do it right, but this will require significant changes and full retest of the impacted functionality.

Re: vSphere 7.0 support
@Gostev - Thanks for the quick reply and, as always, for the quick turn around on testing for compatibility. Veeam has been the most consistent vendors I've ever used when it comes to the timeframe and quality of compatibility testing.

@Gostev will the performance impact be there for 6.7 as well with CP2?
