Surebackup and Dynamic Disk Support

Post by BarryCoombs »

Hi,

Wondering if someone can confirm for me, I am being told that Surebackup doesn't support Dynamic disks and if I want my Surebackup job to run successfully I should not backup my dynamic disks with Veeam?

Is this correct? If so is this issue going to be rectified in a future release?

Kind Regards

Hi Barry, SureBackup does not care about type of disks, except for domain controller VMs. Their pre-processing that we perform automatically (required before placing them into isolated virtual lab) will not work if they have dynamic disks. At the same time, it makes little sense for DCs to have dynamic disks either since they are very small.

Hi Gostev,

That answers my question perfectly unfortunately I have a customer for a DC with dynamic disks, is there going to be any change to this in the future or should I recommend the customer changes away from Dynamic disks.

Cheers

Also whilst on the subject does FLR recovery support dynamic disks, there seems to be conflicting reports on the forum and user guide etc.

Not sure there is a change coming for this in the next release. Anton please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, it is supported. You should be using Multi-OS file level restore wizard to restore files from dynamic disks.

No changes around dynamic disk support coming soon.
For FLR, only simple dynamic disks are supported.
