Saving passwords in configuration backup?

Post by danswartz »

Forgive me if this is known - my google-fu has not turned up an answer. If I want configuration backup to save the credentials, I need to set encryption, but that requires Enterprise license?

Hi Dan,
no, all editions support data encryption. Enterprise and Enterprise Plus also add ability to decrypt backup if you lost your encryption password.

Odd, I tried adding a password and enabling encryption and it told me I had disabled it or was connected to the enterprise system server (or words to that effect.) Let me check again...

Oh, my bad. The yellow warning icon was talking about Loss Protection. Never mind :)

I think you enabled Configuration Encryption and seen "Password loss protection disabled" warning, meaning your Enterprise Manager will not keep a 2nd decryption key(aka if you lost your first one) due to the license constraint. It is fine, your configuration still remains encrypted with a single passkey.
Don't lose your secret key - once gone, all data encrypted with it will turn into pumpkin.
/Cheers!
