Surebackup New Veeam server

Post by jimscott »

Hi,
Next week we are replacing our physical Veeam server. The backup jobs will be created again but we currently use SureBackup and it has created virtual infrastructure like networks, lab and an ESXi host also maps a data store back to the Veeam server. Obviously if we just turn off the old server all the SureBackup infrastructure will be left behind on the ESXi host. The new server will have SureBackup setup eventually but what is the best way to keep this tidy?

Use veeam configuration backup to migrate the settings of your old veeam backup server to the new one.
After that, the SureBackup Job and it‘s virtual Lab configuration should be present with the old settings.
If you don‘t need the surebackup anymore, remove the virtual lab config before migration.

It's only a small environment with 11VMs and 100s of LTO tapes so we decided to go for a new fresh install rather than taking years of upgrades and baggage with us.

If I remove the virtual lab in Veeam will it disconnect the data store and remove the lab VM and network?

Hi Jim, if I remember correctly when you're removing the virtual lab from Veeam B&R, there should be a check box that removes corresponding objects from virtual infrastructure. Anyway, you can delete any leftovers manually as well.

There is a "import" for virtual labs.

Thanks. I deleted the Virtual lab from Veeam before the old Veeam server was removed and ticked the box to remove other components. This has removed the VirtualLab VM, the Virtual lab network but has left the Veeam server mounted as a data store on one of the ESXi hosts. Can I just delete this?
