Cleaning up Backup Copy Job

Post by chaveb »

When I remove backups from a backup copy job (in this case, a retired machine), it does not delete the machine from the backup archive. This is a problem when the backup copy destination is low on space and can't "expire" those backups with our normal retention rules.

Is there a way to get the Backup Copy Job to "update" the contents of the backup archive and remove copies of deleted machines? I can delete the backup from the B&R console but it still seems to be on the disk.

Or is the solution to create backup copy jobs for each individual PC/Server?

Hello,
removing single machines in the console is no problem as long as per-vm backup files are used (I always recommend it): https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100

aging out / deleting VMs that do not exist anymore is configured per job (backup and backup copy job) in the advanced maintenance settings: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100 -> remove deleted items data after...

Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks, I'm on Free so don't have the per-VM option, but I've altered the cleanup option in the job to see if that helps.
