Restoring problem Shared memory
I am having a problem restoring a windows system. I am using Veeam Agent for microdot windows Free version.
I went to perform a bare Metal recovery and guided it thru the process I booted to the USB thumb drive device which loaded the Veeam recovery console, I all so attached my USB Western Digital 5tb Backup Drive to the computer that contains the backup. It started fine and located the backup in the attached USB drive and then when it began, it warned me that if a different version of windows 10 this one was windows 10 1903 and the newer one was windows 10 2004, and MAY have driver problems. I selected to recover the entire computer so didn’t worry about the windows possible problem. I told it to continue since it was just a windows update. Well it ran for about 15 seconds and keeps returning 2 errors with red X’s in them.
The first one says,
Restoring Recovery Partition Error! Shared Memory Connection was closed
The second one says,
Restart Failed Shared Memory Connection was closed failed to download disk.
What’s going on here??? I need to recover my computer.

Hello johnbo,
It is possible for you to raise a support case via any machine with Veeam Agent for Windows installation? If you can do it, please share the case Id with me. Thank you!

Re: Restoring problem Shared memory
So support asked me to recreate a new Media recovery and I did with a USB thumb Drive but unfortuntley that didnot work either:
BUT I also was able to RECREATE the problem I am having with a different windows 10 machine with a different usb drive, here was my response to the support person:

I will wait till they reply...Victor I was able to recreate this problem on another machine.. Here is what I did, first create a Veeam recovery image of a computer with windows 10 on it and save the image to a on a USB portable drive such as a Western Digital 2 tb drive connected to the USB of the computer.
Then to purposely show you the back will not work go into the Device manager of your windows 10 system that you just backed up with Veeam FREE for windows, then scroll down to the section that says, STORAGE CONTROLLERS, click it and open the first one that says INTEL CHIPSET SATA RAID CONTROLLER (or similar) then RIGHT click it, then go to PROPERTIES click on the DRIVER tab on top then click on UNISTALL DEVICE and make sure the DELETE THE SOFTWARE FOR THIS DEVICE is Check marked and CLICK on UNINSTALL then reboot the system it will fail to restart correctly.
If you try to use the VEEAM Image you just created on the USB drive to do a Bare metal recovery it will FAIL with errors similar to mine.
WHY IS THIS????? A image should always work…
John
