The Client has a local job which processing rate 76MBs and the backup copy (cloud) job has a processing rate of 3MB/s why is that?
The backup copy job runs after the local job and I think it will just read the backup files which we created of the local job to the local repository or?.
The local repository is on a USB device on the VM which we pass through the HyperV. The backup copy job bottle neck is the source with 58% followed by the network with 48%. Is it the HyperV or is it that USB drive where it is reading the backup files from? So could we improve the performance with a better storage device? They also have a fiber connection so it cant be the internet connection.
Thanks,

Re: Backup copy job is slow
Hi Tim,
Just off the cuff, what's the read speed from the actual repository? (That USB device?) And what is it actually attached to? The HV host or is Veeam some physical server?
Basically, the bottle next doesn't really lie, imo, and you can just look towards how fast can you do random read on the USB disk. If you test with like DiskSpd, what are your results?

Harvey is correct - backup copy is not just a simple file copy, it is a synthetic activity that randomly reads data blocks from the source backup chain. Bottleneck source points to your source storage.

Re: Backup copy job is slow
I noticed that the Read speed is 7 MB/s and the Transfer Speed is just 2MB/s at the moment - what could be the issue for that or is that an issue?
Source storage means it actually reads from the VMs over the hyper V? The USB Drive is plugged into the HyperV Server and we passed it through VM Ware to the Veeam Server at this client, we do that mostly like that for our clients if they dont have a NAS.
Thanks,

Re: Backup copy job is slow
Poor read performance can be due to using USB pass-through indeed, as I did hear some bad feedback about this technology a few times before. Veeam certainly doesn't have any bottlenecks like that. Being an enterprise backup product, our engine is designed to process data at GB/s rate, so long as your storage and network can provide such performance. Thanks!
