Entire machine backup on Linux to locally attached USB disk.

Post by mazhar »

Can I backup using the "Entire machine" option to locally attached USB disk? I attempted it but the backup eventually failed with a "snapshot overflow" error. I am not sure but I think it is possible that Veeam was trying to backup the locally attached but mounted disk. the USB disk is /dev/md127 and I have it mounted at /mnt/data1. How can I do an entire machine backup to locally attached USB disks without Veeam also trying to backup the mounted backup target? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
You can choose volume level or file level as scope. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=40

If you only choose the volumes that are not your USB disk, then it should work.

Thanks HannesK, that is what I thought. So the entire machine option on Linux is only usable if one is using Veeam Server? Otherwise any other backup target would have to be mounted, no?

Hello,
if you use a central Backup & Replication management server, then the target should be excluded. I don't have USB disks in my lab, but that's what the following message says

Note: backup to local disks is only available for "managed by agent" jobs.

Best regards,
Hannes
