CBT on Hyper-V

Post by GabesVirtualWorld »

My colleague was checking our backups and got the feeling that VMs with CBT have less datatransfer than VMs without CBT. I can't really explain based on the knowledge I think I have on CBT. I thought CBT is just an index and speeds up (skips) scanning for blocks in the VM since VEEAM can see in the CBT index which blocks to backup. But that shouldn't impact the backup size or transfer size, should it?

Hi Gabrie,

I agree with you, a method of changed blocks detection cannot affect transferred data size. May be it's just a coincidence?
Basically, the recommendation is to use CBT for all VMs.

Thanks!
