NAS Archive and Encryption

Post by segfault »

We setup a File Backup job to backup a NAS Share. The primary repository is one of our standard ReFS based repos. We then set the Archive option to hold the deleted files for 2 years and set that to go to one of our deduplication appliances.

The nature of the share is that the files don't live there very long, so most get shuffled to the archive area rather quickly.

The problem is that we have a requirement to make sure that everything is encrypted at rest, so we enabled that on the job. Archive jobs are also encrypted, which destroys the deduplication part and quickly consumed most of the deduplication appliances storage. The dedupe appliance encrypts everything for us, thus we don't need to also encrypt the files we send to it.

Is there a way to disable the encryption on the Archive target while retaining the encryption on the primary side? I don't see any way to specify this in the job, but figured I'd ask before I start to get really creative.

Thanks,

Hi, John. Currently it's not possible, indeed. Thanks!
