v10 NAS Backup is the recommended method. We've just completed our "Nutanix Ready - Files Backup" certification in fact...

v10 NAS backup means how it will backup?

It will take backup as Windows Share SMB

Correct we will back up the SMB share directly rather than doing an image-based backup of the Nutanix FSVM...

NAS backup is file-level backup and identifies changed files instead of blocks. First backup of a file share is Full(that is, backing up all files), and then incremental by default(that is, backing up new files and new versions of previously backed up files).
You can read about it in detail under How File Share Backup Works article.

I have Configured File Share backup using backup from direct share option.

but when the file is open (for ex: excel sheet is opened & used by end user), the backup fails.

can we have any suggestion?

Is there any way to backup locked files without fail.

NAS Backup can retrieve data from Microsoft VSS Snapshot or from NAS Snapshot, which could be scheduled to be taken prior backup job.
Both options allow backup of locked files.

@Ramalingam N I'm looking into how we might be able to script the snapshot with Nutanix Files. Looks like it may be straightforward for NFS but perhaps not for SMB. Still researching

I have posted a pre-NAS backup job script for backing up from Nutanix Files SMB snapshots on VeeamHub - https://github.com/VeeamHub/powershell/ ... ixFilesSMB

What if we want to protect this data by sending it to a cloud connect provider?

Cloud Connect Repositorys are not possible as a backup Copy Target for NAS Backups yet.
See the table for possible backup repos for NAS Backups:

So is it not possible to get this backup data offsite if an organization does not have a second site with a backup repository configured? How would you conform to the 3-2-1 rule of backup? I realize there is an "Archive repository" where one can send to S3 Object storage, but how can the most recent data get sent offsite? I could see having 2 NAS Backup jobs protecting the same shares, with one moving data to archive storage after 1 day (that seems to be the shortest time period for that setting).
