Multiple targets in a managed enviroment

Post by drichman »

I would like to configure Windows Agent 4.0 on a laptop to create daily backups to the local USB drive, but then do a weekly backup to my B&R server across the VPN on Friday nights (as to not saturate my internet line every day of the week).

The laptop is currently doing the BU to the B&R server without issue in Windows Agent Policy mode, but I cannot figure out how to get the local to USB portion working. If I attempt to create a new job on the local agent, it says that it is managed by the B&R server. If I attempt to create a new job targeting the local USB drive on the B&R server, it says that my machine is already part of another B&R job (the one targeting the B&R server).

I read the docs, but I must be missing some portion.

B&R v10 Enterprise
Agent v4

Hi Dean,
You cannot assign multiple Managed by Agent policies to the machine. To achieve your case, you have 2 possible ways:
- switch to Unmanaged mode, configure 2 jobs(one targeting USB, one targeting VBR)
- use VBR Managed by Server mode(Server edition of agent) to assign 2 jobs. Add your USB Disk as a VBR Backup Repository and set 2nd job to target it. Note, that you will have to have active connection with VBR Server at all times for this to work, since VBR server will now trigger the remote job execution on the machine.
/Thanks!

@Egor, How do you switch to Unmanaged mode?

Are there any plans to allow a managed agent to be programmed with a local job (or am I the only one who want this)?

You need to uninstall agent via Veeam B&R UI and then install it manually.

To be honest this is the first time I got this request, so consider your vote noted as improvement request. Cheers!

I have the same requirement!
It would be very handy, if our staff with their Notebook who often work for a longer period offline from company network, could switch to an attached USB disk as a target to still backup their data. Backup cache is no option because the internal disks are not large enough on notebooks

Simon,

Thank you for updating the thread! I wonder if you would like to have such option controlled via Veeam B&R or allow any user with managed agent to create additional jobs without additional control from the admin side? Cheers!

Dima, can we have both options? And the ability to prevent user from creating local jobs.

Dima, what are the chances we are going to see this feature in the near future? Or do I need to look for another product to do local backups?

In this forced Work from Home time, sending backup jobs to the B&R repository over home data line speeds are not working out.

Thanks

Dima,
At least the first option (controlled via Veeam B&R) would be fine, Thanks!
