Deep Glacier Storage

Post by infused »

Is this supported on tape gateways? I saw it wasn't awhile ago, but it would be good to know why, as I can't really see a technical reason why not?

Hello,
as long as the tape library is LTO3 and newer compatible, we support it. Whether the VTL stores it in stone, ice, disk, tape or whatever is not relevant from a Veeam perspective.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100

The main question is, how urgent that topic is for you. We announced at VeeamON, that we are planning to support Glacier / Glacier Deep Archive and Azure Archive Tier with the next major release (V11).

Best regards,
Hannes

@infused As hannes stated, it is indeed supported. https://www.veeam.com/wp-using-aws-vtl- ... guide.html

[MERGED] VTL with Azure Blob

Post by infused »

Hi Guys.

With v10, is it possible to use VTL with Azure Blob (Archive Tier). I can't find much information on this.

Also, is there any information about Azure Blob storage changes in v10 from v9.5 I saw in 9.5 it was only used as a tier, now it seems like you can copy out full jobs for retention in blob storage.

Hello,
I merged your question with the same question you asked a few days ago.

It does not matter whether the VTL writes on papyrus, Azure Archive tier, AWS glacier or whatever.

Please note the same: we also plan to support Azure Archive tier with V11

post369978.html might also be interesting for you.

In the guide it says that you need Enterprise Plus? Why is that, I don't see anything special (just tape utilization, which is supported in Enterprise). Am I missing something?

You're correct, tape support is included in the Enterprise edition.

If I set up the VTL for Glacier in version 10, would that be a waste once I upgrade to v11?

not a waste but they wouldn't be together. You would just let those age out as the new archive tier took over.
