Export Backup - Change retention after?

Post by stuartmacgreen »

When you choose Export Backup in Veeam the dialog is simple and effective with the only choice being which restore point and how long should this backup be retained for.
I noticed that when choosing a retention other than none the Export Backup Job Name is shown with the date of backup and the date of expiry. This I presume is an indicator only to the Console operator of the retention. Retention is stored and controlled via the Veeam Backup database/catalog.?

Format
VMNAME_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD

How can I change this expiry please afterwards. ? Is it controlled in the database only?

Scenario: "We need to keep that standalone backup for 5 years and not 1 year now."

Or what would be my best options. Thanks

Hi Stuart, yes, retention is controlled by the Veeam B&R database, so there's no way to change it except direct database modification, which is not recommended of course. Let's take this as a feature request. Thanks!

OK thanks.
Other options available:
If I Remove from Configuration (the Exported Backup that was set during Export to delete after 1 year) ..then rescan the repository its located.
The backup will show up under Imported.
This will now no longer have a retention set - is that correct?

Right, retention doesn't apply to imported backups.
