configure better enviroment

Post by Fegume »

Hello.

Ia have Site A:

1 cluster Vmware with 2 Server

50VM
10TB

Repository: StoreOnce iSCSI

Ia have Site B:

1 cluster Vmware with 2 Server

Repository: StoreOnce iSCSI

PLAN:

backup local SITE A to StoreOnce Local
Backup copy Job Catalys copy (native copy) StoreOnce A to StoreOnce B

Questions:

1: How many proxy and Gateways I configure for this enviroment?
2. Is it better configure Gateway in Site B for connect StoreOnce Site B or use the option "gateway server and StoreOnce are connect over WAN"?
The Wan is slow over 50Mb

Best regards!

The number of proxies depends on the required backup window and the particular proxy specs - you can backup all the VMs using an even single one. As for the gateways, you need a gateway per StoreOnce, but keep in mind that with Catalyst Copy jobs, gateways are involved in management traffic only, the data itself flies directly via Catalyst between the stores, so their placement is not that critical in this case (which means you can share a single gateway between both arrays).

Hello,

I'd like to expand on what Foggy said about backup window: you should define how many tasks are you going to process in parallel.
I'd suggest to take a look at this page which contains the specific example of proxy tasks calculation and you can try to experiment with Veeam Size Estimator tool as well.

Thanks!
