Backup data Capacity in Amazon S3

Post by Tos »

Hi
Our prospect customer have question.

##Q1
When we run backup Amazon EC2 to S3 Storage by using Veeam Backup for AWS, is the full backup data stored in S3 equal to the actual usage used by the backup target EC2 ?

For example, if we backup the below EC2;
----
Capacity : 128GB
Actual usage : 30GB
----

the full backup data of S3 is 30GB ?

##Q2
Is backup data of S3 deduplicated and compressed ?
If so, is it about half ?
(When backing up a EC2 with a actual usage of 30 GB, is the backup data about 15 GB?)

The below Veeam backup for Azure user guide mentioned that backup data in BLOB will be compressed, but Veeam backup for AWS did not specifically mention it.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbazu ... tml?ver=10

Please let me know.

The method and logic is the same as for Azure. We have compression which is around 50%. So for Q1, it would be around 15GB.
