VBO365 backups bottleneck is source

Post by cfortenbery »

Is there anyway to speed up backups from Office 365 if the jobs are identifying the source (I assume that means Office 365) as the bottleneck? A client wants to do a full backup every month specifically for annual retention policy and their first backup went nearly 60 hours. I suggested splitting up the backup jobs and adding another proxy in Azure to back it up but they are reluctant to do that. Suggestions?

For Sharepoint and Onedrive Backup, you can use multiple Backup Accounts for parallel processing:

And please to not sell your clients monthly full backups with this product. It‘s not built for that scenario :)
Microsoft will always throttle you. Cloud Services are not built to do a complete download all data each month.

Use veeams VSS integration to take a monthly backup of the vbo365 Backup Server.

Hopefully, someone from veeam can confirm my statement

That's correct @Mildur.
However, for annual retention, you can set up a separate repository with snapshot-based retention and a monthly backup job. It will maintain restore points with all the data present in O365 at the time of backup, saving only changes on each backup job run.

Ok, thanks for clarification :-)

For us, it's better to do a veeam backup of the VBO365 server and put it on Tape for long term retention.
