Nutanix AHV copy and Cloud Connect support

Post by b.vanhaastrecht »

Hello,

Does VAN have support for Copy jobs to Cloud Connect repository. Are there any restrictions?
Does VAN have support for Replication to Hyper-V or VMware, and so for DraaS?

Thank you,
Bastiaan

1) Yes, backup copy job is supported and documented in our user guide.
2) We don't do cross replication between any platform so no.

Thank you!

Do you think cross platform replication will ever be available?

From SP perspective I could say Mine NEED's cross hypervisor ability to compete with Prism so we can build proper offsite DR. Any news on this?

If you're referring to cross-platform replication, then there is no update yet.

May you tell us how having replication not to the same hypervisor platform, but to a different one makes it suitable for proper offsite DR? Just to trying to better understand a need to perform cross-hypervisor replication back and forth regularly. Thanks!

Hello veremin,

In general, cross- platform cloudconnect replication would be very helpful for SP's. Then an SP would not need to create and maintain a VMware environment, a Hyper-V environment, a AHV environment, etc.etc.

I would like to know what a CloudConnect SP can do to provide DR for clients running on AHV, what options are there for replication using Veeam?

Hey Stephen, there aren't any Veeam-native replication options for AHV. AHV supports a robust array of replication functionality as I'm sure you're already aware but to your point above would require a target Nutanix cluster on the SP end...

Hello ronmartin61,

I wish I know more about the replication functionality that is already built in to Nutanix, but unfortunately I do not know much about Nutanix. We have a client that is using a Nutanix hardware stack running VMware, but they want to run AHV soon and move away from VMware. However, they do like the DR features that we offer using CloudConnect.

If our client were to switch to AHV, what Offsite DR option do they have?

Hi Stephen,

Your client would be able to use backup copy jobs targeted to your cloud repository and then leverage Instant VM recovery to bring up the backed up VM quickly.

Thanks!
