NAS copy to S3 (off-site backup)

hi there,
We have customers who want to eliminate their tapes. VMs are already backed up to Cloud Connect. For NAS we want to use S3. We are able to use S3 for archive but it would be nice, if we can offload the files (all) as soon as possible to S3. S3 target as secondary repository is not supported neither.
Offloading via SOBR is not working for NAS backup.

How is it possible to copy nas backup off-site? is this possible in later versions?

Our initial focus is backup to disk + archiving to disk or object storage, as this is the most common use cases. We followed the same path with scale-out repository, if you remember: immediate copy to object storage was added later.

Nevertheless, both object storage and tape are the priority for future NAS backup enhancements.

Sounds good... here in central europe are many "on-premise" companies that rely on such features - there is a big difference to other countries.

Second this. The v10 "copy to cloud" functionality have been the most valuable new feature for us in many many years.
To be honest, the NAS backup feature is not fully "unusable" (as in not covering requirements) for us until we can put a full copy in object storage.

In the meantime there are creative ways to accomplish this. For example, HPE offers "HPE Cloud Volumes" which is storage hosted in HPE's data centers (which peer with Azure & AWS). It comes in two flavors, with one being HPE Cloud Volumes Backup that to Veeam looks like a StoreOnce Catalyst share. With this option you would simply add a Catalyst repo to the Veeam environment and configure the secondary copy portion of a NAS backup job to point to this StoreOnce. The end result is a secondary copy of the data to the cloud. Other storage vendors may have something similar.

Note the one limitation specifically with the HPE route is that currently a StoreOnce is limited to 10 TB of data. This should be resolved in the next major update for Backup & Replication.
