First steps - NAS - Backup 4.7GB

Post by Quickly »

Hello.
Excuse my English. I need to use the translator!
I just made my first steps and set up Veeam Backup & Replication.
Worked right away. Very cool.

I come from another provider (Acr..). Here there was always the possibility to split the whole backup into 4.7GB units.
  • MyRepositie ist a Share on NAS (smb or nfs possible)
  • Is it even possible to split the backups into 4.7GB blocks? I have not found the point.
  • Does it make sense to split the backup when you can?
I quite like this division and speed is not my problem.

Thanks for your help, Quickly

Hi Lars.
Why would you like to split the backup into 4.7GB chunks anyway? Writing them on DVD in 2020?
Veeam does not split backups by size, however each backup is written in it's own "container" file - that is, full backups generate .vbk and following incremental backup will backup only changed blocks since last run, creating new .vib files as result. Size of incremental backup is determined by amount of changes your machines have and varies on each job run.
/Cheers!

Hi, Egor.
Thanks for your answer. Yes, why?

For one thing, I've always done it this way. OK, stupid reason. I wanted to know. :)
For another, I have a pretty big NextCloud. And here, I didn't want to upload the whole "data" every time.
And, of course, I wanted to save the money for veeam cloud.

But you already answered my question and that helps. Since the VIB are not really big this is no problem. I had not paid attention to that at all!

Then I will see how Veeam gets along with my Exchage!

Thanks a lot!
