DR config: supported?

Post by wisecra »

We'd like to set this up and need to make sure it's supported and also what exact licensing we need for Veeam backup:

[Please note that one site has ESXi, one site has ESX]

Main Site:
- One VMware ESXi server
- Two socket
- 4 VMs

Remote Site:
- One VMware ESX server
- One socket
- 2 VMs

+ We want to REPLICATE the 4 VMs from the main site to the remote site. The SOURCE would be ESXi, the DESTINATION would be ESX.

Reading the forums, this appears to be supported. Would we need a one socket or two socket license?
TIA!

Hello - yes, this config is supported, and you need 3 socket license since both source and target servers are licensed for replication.

Thank you!

@Gostev - Thanks for the quick response! Also for the 'right' response. 8-)

I understand that you don't/can't reveal detailed future plans, but I'll ask this in a way that I hope you can answer.

You've indicated in other posts that replication with ESXi as the TARGET is planned for a future release. For planning purposes, can you give me an idea (even via a private email) on how future that is? months? quarters? years? decades?

More directly - It'd be really perfect for me if it was introduced by august or september, 2009. Is that realistic?

Again, TIA!

ESXi replication is one of the top priority features for us at the moment.
But since you gave me an option, I choose to PM you the answer and related question.
