Best practices for using Veeam replication with VMware SRM

Post by Yuya »

Hello everyone,

We use array-based VMware Site Recovery Manager (Pure Storage).
However, failover is a storage unit, so we would like to use Veeam's replication.

We think it's okay to use them together.
However, we want to use these in a better configuration.

Are there any best practices when using them together?
For example, should the destination data list be changed?

Thank you,
Yuya

Hello,
as you already said: from a technical perspective you can use both. Array-based replication and VM-based replication (product independant).

I would call it more a "use for the purpose". So if you have volumes where you only like to replicate a few machines: go for VM-based.

For volumes where all VMs should be replicated: go for volume based.
For example, should the destination data list be changed?
I guess that's an SRM term? At least from Veeam side, I have no recommendation on that.

Best regards,
Hannes

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.
I have one more question.
I want to replicate the same VM with both Veeam replication and VMware SRM.
Is there anything I should be careful of?

Regards,
Yuya

Hello,
storage level and VM based replication work on different layers. I see no issues replicating twice.

Hannes
