registry setting FilesNotToSnapshot

hello and thanks much a great free product,
i was using veeam at work but i lost my job.
at home, i have been using veeam free editions.

veeam agent will not backup folders that are listed in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToSnapshot

i have a folder that should not be backuped up but some files are getting backed up.
i added this to the list in registry.
C:\ex\*.* /s

if a file does not have an extension, then veeam will back it up.
'file.ext' will not get backed up
'file' will get backed up.

i tried to use
c:\ex\ /s
but veeam backed up 27GB of files inside that folder.

i have searched the internet, microsfot docs but could not figure out what to do

in the end, i did some testing and found out that
c:\ex\* /s
worked

as an aside, i just noticed that veeam, on the fly, creates an entry in FilesNotToSnapshot named VeeamExcludePaths
and seems veeam is using \* and not \*.*

it would be nice if veeam could better document about this registry entry, how to use it and make it clear that veeam creates the entry on the fly.
but then again, i did figure it out on my own, and as a community user, who am i to complain about a great free product

as an update, veeam seems to be copy some files despite an entry.
having an entry of c:\ex\* /s
some files are still getting backed up.

i did a full active backup

i cannot find any logic as to why these exact files were backed up and 19,840 were not backed up?

i have found a quirk that is not mentioned in that KB.

it seems that is a file has read-only, it is not excluded from FilesNotToSnapshot reg entry.
not sure that it is a windows vss issue or a veeam issue.

the entry is c:\ex\* /s
any files inside that folder and subfolders that has a read-only attribute, then it gets backed up by veeam agent.
