Configuration backup - forgot to encrypt

Post by jround »

In advance of a Veeam v10 upgrade today I took a manual Veeam Configuration Backup just prior to upgrade...which was wise as sadly the upgrade failed for some reason

To get around that quickly I just wiped Veeam components off the server and did a clean v10 install then restored the configuration backup...unfourtunately it turns out I forgot to 'enable backup file encryption' so it lost all the saved credential passwords

This isn't an issue as we only have a handful and in some ways a good thing as it enables me to clear out some of the junk at the same time that has built up over the years

However looking at the screen again after a coffee

'Saved credentials and backup server certificate will not be included in the configuration backup until encryption is enabled'

Do I need to be worried about the 'backup server certificate'?

Hi Jround,

That is correct, the backup server certificate is not backed up if configuration backup encryption is disabled, however, I would not worry about it unless you used a custom certificate. In case you did you may want to import the certificate again.

Thanks
