Synthetic, can I delete the original

I started making synthetic backups. It worked, however I'm left with the original .vbk and the new .vbk, and they are each 8 TB. It's too much. Can I delete the old .vbk? What is best practice?

An obsolete backup chain will be deleted automatically according to the retention policy settings, please take a look at this page on our help center.
