Backup Active directory DC

Post by tonybegood »

Hi,

Can you tell me if there are specific configuration on backup Job for domains controllers ?

Because, i have some issues after backup my two DCs. I have issues with hours between my dcs and others servers.

Since, i disabled my backup job all work fine.

I read some things about state of dcs during the backup.

Thanks for your help (and sorry for my bad english)

Hi Tony.

Not much specific to DC's, just make sure you have "[x] Enable application-aware processing" ticked and correct credentials provided under Backup Job -> Guest Processing tab. That will ensure ADDS VSS writer is triggered during backup and application-aware backup is performed. We do have a solid blog posts series about ADDS Protection\Recovery.
In terms of time sync, that sounds strange. What time sync method you are using? Hyper-V server can push it's time to guest OSes, Domain Controller Server itself might have Windows Time service syncing with NTP elsewhere, other machines in the environment do have their own time sync settings too - by default all domain-joined machines should be syncing with domain controller server holding PDC emulator FSMO role.

/Hope that helps!

Hi,

my "pdc" syncing with outside NTP (fr.pool.ntp.org) and all my servers and computers are configured in NT5DS.

But i seen, after backup, i had issues with share folders, and rds servers. An error message told me a difference hour, when i tried to connect on rds, and impossible to access at my share folders.

Since i disable backup DCs Job, (one week) I no longer have a problem
maybe it's just a coincidence?

Hello,

I would suggest to examine Windows Event Logs on DCs, maybe you could find there some relevant messages which appear during backup.

One more recommendation would be to raise a support request and ask our support team to perform technical analysis of the issue.
Please don't forget to provide us with the support case ID.

Thanks!
