Veeam backup itself as VM Backup job

Hi,
during backup related to esxi host targeted to qnap smb share I have this error:

Failed to flush file buffers. File: [\\10.23.1.64\backup\Backup VM\Backup VMD2020-08-27T112658_B83A.vbk]. Failed to backup text locally. Backup: [VBK: 'veeamfs:0:82bbffdc-5836-4659-800b-2a9451f85b1b (20)\summary.xml@\\10.23.1.64\backup\Backup VM\Backup VMD2020-08-27T112658_B83A.vbk']. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.BackupText}. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.BackupText}.

Veeam is installed in this VM (Windows Server 2012R2) where I have error in backup job; same job for other VM instead works perfect...

Hi Francesco,

We recommend using Configuration Backup for backing up the Backup & Replication server configuration, so you may exclude the VM where B&R is installed from the backup job.

Ok but into VM there are folder and other system state object to backup...it's a supported configuration or not?

In case of a DR, you may spin up a new fresh VM, install B&R, restore configuration backup, and start performing data protection operations.

The downsides of the setup you currently have are mentioned in the UG section I linked above, so that is not a recommended solution.

I'm pretty sure the error you have faced has a different root cause, but I doubt it's a good idea to investigate it. Instead, I would recommend taking configuration backup and excluding the B&R server VM from the job, but of course, it's up to you.
