error: unable to obtain IP addresses for host

Post by Fegume »

Hello I have a one problem.

I have:
- SRVVEEAM1 as backup server
- SRVVEEAM2 as proxy and repository.
both have the configure host file with this data:

SRVVEEAM1 192.168.1.1
SRVVEEAM2 192.168.1.2
vcenter 192.168.1.3
ESX1 192.168.1.4
ESX2 192.168.1.5

I add the proxy and reposorisory host with IP or name server and is ok, but when I run backup Job, show this message:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhEgG4C2IYtVg9Vqgzw ... Q?e=rr8qRz

i don'r understand, becasuse the both server ping all IPs and name resolve is ok.

Any idea?

regards!

Likely the reason for this is that vcenter APIs will always tell us the FQDN names of the ESXi hosts in the API. This is as well the case when you add the vcenter by IP address/Short Name or add the ESXi host by IP address to the vCenter.

Go to the ESXi host and configure the hostname and domain name correctly.
Then add beside the short name as well the FQDN name to the hosts file.

Example
ESX1.mylab.local ESX1 192.168.1.4
ESX2-mylab.local ESX2 192.168.1.5

Hello Andreas,

the real host file is:

SRVVEEAM1 192.168.1.1
SRVVEEAM2 192.168.1.2
vcenter.ges.local 192.168.1.3
ESX1.ges.local 192.168.1.4
ESX2.ges.local 192.168.1.5

The unable to obtain IP addresses for host is SRVVEEAM2 (proxy).

I have add vcenter without problem.

Thanks!!

can you please double check that the host name within ESXi correctly matches the host file as well the domain name matches the domain name in the hosts file.

The hosts file need to be on the Backup Server and all Proxy Servers
