Encrypting Backups in AWS

Post by bwisdom »

Our SOBR is up and we are testing backups in AWS. I had a question about encrypting those backups. Do we have to use Veeam to do it? Or can we use AWS encryption and somehow pass the key to Veeam to use?

No, you don't have to use Veeam encryption.

You can enable encryption on the bucket instead, and it will be transparent for Veeam.

Of course, this is a less secure approach which is rarely used by customers, as in theory this lets Amazon staff who manages storage systems to decrypt and read your data. Whereas if you use Veeam to do the encryption, your data will already come into Amazon encrypted.
