Hello -
I am a consultant and have several customers considering converting their backup jobs from backing up by VM name to backing up by vsphere tags. Would making this conversion reset the flag so the first backup after conversion would be a full again?
Thanks!

Re: Changing to tags
No, it would not - as with either approach, the job will process the same exact list moRef IDs. Thanks!

Re: Changing to tags
Hi,
I've done that several times. As far as the VM falls on the same job, there is no problem.
You can also switch tags.
In my case, for each job I have at least 2 tags:
1 Tag without application aware
1 Tag with application aware + log truncation + periodical transaction backup
In the new system I am currently working on, I will have three:
1 Without application aware
1 With application aware + copy only
1 With application aware + log processing (truncation + periodical transaction backup)
So I can switch on/off application awareness parameters from vSphere without doing a new backup of the VM or playing with Veeam jobs (qualified environment...).
Best regards
