Protect tape (override) after job completion?

Post by expert »

Hello,

scenario:
- Tape library with 8 slots
- 5 tapes in the library: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri (2 sets)
Jobs:
- File to Tape Job daily
- VM to Tape Job daily
- override protection media pool for 13 days active (2 sets of 5 Tapes)

When the 2 jobs finishs the date "expires in" will be set. The next day (when the 2 jobs starts again), data will be appended on the tape from yesterday until it is full.

Question: is it possible to configure the jobs in any kind of way that for every day the right tape will be used (without removing the tape from the library)

best regards,

Juergen

Hello Juergen,

To make sure I got this right: you want Monday job run to use specific media i.e. Monday tapes XYZ, same for Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri job runs? Thanks in advance for the clarification!

Juergen,

For tapes without barcodes you can specify names and enable the logic to select tapes in alphabetic order, however, whenever tape is barcoded we rely on barcodes completely and ignore the names in the UI. I will note a feature request based on your post. Cheers!

Hi,

Couple of versions ago we've added the logic to select tape media based on it's lifespan (to load balance the tape media usage), so tape selection is no longer based on the alphabetic order of the tape names or barcodes. Cheers!
