Hi,
(hopefully) quick question:
When I add a NAS-Repository the protocol should be nfs or smb.
When I add a Windowsserver as repository to veeam using windows credentials what protocol is/are used for datatransfer.
I get asked this from time to time.
I appreciate your input.

Re: What protocol is used to move data from or to a windows repository
Hi Alexander,
Thanks!
You can find the full description here.To communicate with a Microsoft Windows-based repository, Veeam Backup & Replication uses two Data Mover Services that are responsible for data processing and transfer:
- Veeam Data Mover on a backup proxy
- Veeam Data Mover on the Microsoft Windows repository
Thanks!

Hello,
thanks for the answer but unfortunately the linked article doesn't go into detail.
I assume those two protocols are veeam proprietary?
I thought I heard someone talk about them as if they were an implementation of a more general purpose data transfer protocol.
Nevertheless, thanks!

Re: What protocol is used to move data from or to a windows repository
They are Veeam purpose built based on our DataMovers (They are named Veeam Agents in the process view of the OS).
It gives us much better control of the process and we can optimize it heavily.

Hi Alexander,
you can get more information about Veeam Data Movers here.
Not sure which details you are looking for, do you have some certain questions on this functionality?
Thanks!
