Delete Backup fails - backup is in use Application Groups

Hi forum,

I try do delete some old backups from 2018 which fails with the error: "Cannot delete selected backup, because it is in use."
When I look at the details it shows me several Application Groups. I checked the application groups, they don't have the vm included.
I have this problem with multiple vms from multiple jobs, the displayed application groups are changing.
We upgraded the costumer from latest 9.5U4 to 10.0.1.4854 a couple of days ago.
The application groups were created before the update.

Does someone know what to do?

Hi,

Please provide a support case id, it's required when you post a technical issue according to the forum rules.
If you've already checked surebackup jobs and current sessions, it would be better to find out the problem with Support team.

Hi,

I had a remote session with a great support technician, who told that if I add a vm to an application group from backup, in the Veeam database the application group references to the complete job and prevents a user from deleting any restore points inside the job. The solution is to remove all vms from the job from all application groups and then delete the restore points, then readd and reconfigure the vms to the application group, or locate the restore points on the repository, delete the files manually and then perform a rescan of the backup repository.

Not a nice solution

This behauvior is a bit overkill to me!

Hi Benedikt, just to let you know - this behavior has been fixed in the upcoming v11. You won't have to remove/re-add anything, Veeam B&R will allow you to delete backups that are not involved in Application Groups. Thanks!

thanks for the information! Do you know how this is implemented? Is only the corresponding VM Backup locked or will the backup be removed and the application group will wail or not process the vm anymore?
