From Object storage to local storage

Post by kristofpoppe »

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody already had succes or a proven path to 'convert' repo's on Object storage back to local storage ?
The "Move-VBOEntityData" allows to perform the local > object but not the other way around.

I have several options in mind, but want to check if somebody already did this before in a consistent way.

Thanks !

Hi Kristof,

That's currently not supported. You'll need a new full backup to your local storage.
Out of curiosity, why would you like to migrate from object storage to the local repository?

Hello Polina,

As an idependent Veeam consultant I see al lot of (mis)configurations regarding Veeam B&R, VBO,... Some customers use the object storage as their only and primary datastore to store their Office 365 data. This means full dependency on the S3 Compatible storage and slow restores...

Got it, thanks for getting back on this.

I'd note though that restore speeds would not necessarily be slower. Under certain conditions, it can be even more efficient than from the local repository.

Hi Polina, thanks for the additional clarification.

I would like to hear more from you regarding the 'condition' where this is more efficiënt. Just to extend my knowledge in this area.
