Netapp Ontap 9.8 S3 and immutabilty

Post by niksubra »

Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum, so forgive me if I'm following the correct rules...

I want to ask if there's any information about Ontap S3 and immutability feature.
Will it be added as compatible (+ immutability) object storage? If so, is there a roadmap? If will not be compatible, is there a technical reason (so I can explain it to my customers)?

Thanks in advance for your support and replies! :)

Best Regards

In general, we support the specific standard for Immutability (object lock with versioning) that follows the AWS S3 standard.
If the storage system fully supports S3 protocol including object lock API, then it will be compatible with our immutability feature.

I will ask our NetApp specialist to comment on the NetApp part.

Object Lock API to my understanding has not been added as a supported API in ONTAP 9.8. This is definitely a question for NetApp that I'll ask at our next call and update confirmation here.

Thanks for your replies! I'll look forward to have an update on this question from Netapp.

Hi
Ontap 9.8 S3 does not support Object Lock API. It is planned for StorageGrid
