Splitting IP streams

Post by ortec-RW »

Hi

I'm wondering about the possibility in Veeam to achieve seperation of traffic at the IP/Subnet/Interface level.

Let's say I have a central Veeam server in subnet A, and a Managed server which holds a repository in subnet B. I would like the communication between these two components (for Management purposes) to be secured by my central Firewall. This way I can create central access-rules that only allow certain ports to be accessible from a certain souce IP subnet. Basically everything that Veeam needs to work, but nothing else.

But, at the same time, I want my backup-job datastream from the Proxy to NOT flow via the same Firewall to/from subnet B. I want that stream to use a different subnet/NIC on the Managed server, say Subnet C. Mainly to avoid bandwidth issues and not overload my Firewall with a big data-stream.

Are Preferred networks the solution to this ?

Thnx

Hi Richard,

Looks like this preferred network setting is exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks!
