vCloud Director 10.2 support

Post by DanielJ » 1 person likes this post

Our VMware team has suddenly become early adopters and want to upgrade to vCD 10.2 which was recently released. Has it been tested with VBR 10a? Is it planned for the next update?

Hello Daniel,

We aim to support new VMware vSphere versions within 90 days. Usually less time is needed.

But vCD traditionally implement lots of changes in its updates so we have to adjust our Software accordingly.
The release vehicle is not decided yet.

Hi,
we updated last week to VCD 10.2 in our test env. We use the Veeam Enterprise Manager (VEM) to backup stuff directly through the VMware Cloud Director. We didn't see any problems the last days but it's a small env.

Any chances that VCD 10.2 will be official supported by the next Cumulative Patch for vSphere in November?
When is the next patch scheduled for the VEM?

No chances.

Typically we do not release cumulative patches for VEM, only for VBR. And right now we cannot share our plans for post-November product versions or patches.

Thanks!

When It's Ready™

Probably around the same time as v10 this year, since our major release cycle have been approximately annual for many years now. We don't usually deviate for more than a few months from year to year.

Is there any chance of a hotfix for 10.2 support? We have the v11 beta currently. Do you have a timeframe for a release candidate that would be upgradable to GA? This would be a headache to try to roll back to cloud director 10.1 and we would prefer to not recreate all of our jobs directly to the cloud director vCenter.

Unfortunately, a hotfix can be issued only in cases when the previously released and officially supported feature has an issue due to some bugs. But since we never officially supported vCloud Director 10.2 with 10a, we cannot request that developers "hotfix" it. Also, this situation is not about updating one line of code to fix a bug anyway: 10.2 support required some new code to be written in the v11 branch to address the changes it brings.

Please note that BETA and RC builds are never upgradeable to GA, nor they are supported for production use in the first place.

I recommend you roll back to 10.1, as it's not like the GA is coming in the next few days/weeks anyway, since we didn't get into the RC stage yet.
