[Features request] SharePoint filter backup

Post by tbeekmans »

Backup SharePoint option, option Add Objects to backup, add select by filter what needs to be backup.
This filter could contain a certain string, fir example backup all sites if the name contains, <org>.

We're in a OF365 tenant with other regions of our company, and you don't want to backup all sites, only you own sites.

Hi Tom,

Filtering by name is already available in the wizard:

Could you please specify what functionality exactly are you missing?

Thanks!

Yes I know, however I want to set this dedicated, if new site is created in Office 365, it should be automatically added in the backup, I don't want to search manually and save the job, otherwise I have to check manually every time..;)

Would a PowerShell as a workaround be a solution for now?

So, it looks more like backup management automation through using some sort of "O365 security groups" but for sites instead of users, right? )
Or, alternatively, this could be an ability to select/filter sites by their location, correct?

Not location or group, just if the name contains a certain string it should be automatically added to the backup, would be nice to have it in the GUI.

Hi Niels,

Do you have powershell script example, I could test if it is useful?

Tom, I don't have a script identical like your request but in VBO v2, you couldn't exclude personal sites from the checkbox so I made a script for it (https://github.com/nielsengelen/veeam-p ... tSites.ps1). I will see to modify this to work as your idea and let you know.

@tbeekmans, I added a script for this on GitHub (https://github.com/nielsengelen/veeam-p ... Filter.ps1)

Just change the 3 variabeles on top to match your needs and use Windows Task Schedule to run the script every X hours or once a day.

Tom,

With that powershell script you do basically the same as running through the wizard only through a task scheduler. It would be very difficult to actually have this in the UI automated, then we would add some sort of task scheduler in the solution
