Creating a backup of a CIFS or NFS share proxy bottleneck

Post by nvdwansem »

Hello,

Recently I've started creating backups from CIFS/NFS shares in v10, when I check the job status the proxy is always the bottleneck.

My question is what is the proxy server in this case? I know it's not using an actual proxy server like regular VM backup does so can someone clarify that for me?

Cheers

Hi Nvdwansem,

File proxy is responsible for transferring the data from the file shares. Most likely, in your case, this role is assigned to the backup server, which already has a significant load.

nvdwansem,

To check what proxy is assigned to your file share open the Inventory node in the Veeam B&R console, find the file share in the question and go to it's properties. You should see the list of assigned proxies under Processing step. Cheers!

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear.

I'm taking backups of file shares hosted on Linux and Windows servers Adding Managed Server File Share

Thanks

Hi,

In this case, the File Server itself acts as a proxy, and the data mover component is installed there. Most likely, there is a high CPU resource consumption on this server that results in the bottleneck. At first, I would analyze Resource Monitor data during different usage scenarios to get an idea of what's going on there.

Hope it helps, thanks.
