Backup repository object storage, traffic

Post by StanoSedliak »

Hi,

just to be sure as I didnt find any info on the quick way. If I will have a on-premise server where I install Veeam backup office365 and I will add object storage as backup repository (azure) and I will do the backup to it, as cache storage I need to have on-premise storage, but the traffic will stay in "azure" so backups will be directly stored on the blob storage or need I a proxy serer in azure?

Thank you!

Hi Stano,

Traffic goes via proxy, so to save on costs it's better to deploy a remote VBO proxy on Azure VM (same region).

Thanks!

Hi Polina,

thank you for confirmation.
So the best would be directly to install Veeam backup for office365 to a VM running in azure and to skip the installation on the on-premise server.
And as I know the backup to object storage is faster than backup on the on-premise storage, right?

That's correct, typically it shows better performance compared to JET-based repositories. And additionally, you'll get higher compression rates, "limitless" capacity, and the ability to encrypt your backups.
