Update vShere Tags with Business View
Hi all,
In an earlier Veeam ONE version there was an option to "Update vSphere Tags with Business View categorization".
In Veeam ONE 9.5 Update 4 I did not find this option anymore.
Is it not possible anymore to update vSphere tags with Veeam ONE Business View?

Hi Daniel!
Surely it is possible.
When you create a new Business Category, on last step "Export" you are asked if you want Business View cats to be populated over to vSphere\SCVMM tags or not.
Thanks!

Egor is right.
The only case when the option is not offered is when you use Import Categorization Model from vCenter Server mode.
Thanks

Re: Update vShere Tags with Business View
I thought the tag synchronization process of VeeamONE to be bi-directional in nature.
But I just realized that once I enable "Import Categorization Model from vCenter Server" I not only loose the export step in the group wizard - there is also no sync any more. Is that intentional?
We use tags for backups with many customers and educate them to manipulate them using VeeamONE.
Also with some others non-VBR-relevant tags are exported to reflect backup SLAs oder snapshot age into vCenter.
Now I wanted to use both functionalities together:
1. Edit my backup tags using VeeamONE and thus have them in sync
2. push VeeamONE generated categories/groups into vCenter tags
Is there any way to achieve this?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mdiver,
This process is intentionally not bi-directional. To achieve what you ask for you may temporarily disable vSphere tags pulling and perform the export, then enable importing again.
Thanks

Re: Update vShere Tags with Business View
Thanks Fedor.
VeeamONE was once suggested to be used as a faster method to edit tags. But therefore I would always need the communication to be bi-directional, wouldn't I?
Can switching off and on pulling of tags be automated/scripted?

Re: Update vShere Tags with Business View
Unfortunately, it can be only done from within the UI at the moment.
Originally, tags pulling was designed to allow easier creation of business view groups in order to simplify monitoring, and specifically, reporting capabilities and this is it. On the other hand, exporting of business view groups allows pushing the desired categorization created within VONE to vCenters to simplify management of VMs from vCenter, which is an opposite and different process. To not cause data transfer loops and conflicts which are very possible to happen both features can not be enabled at the same time.
Please keep in mind that categories and tags are not the same and should be treated differently. Moreover, a tag is an attribute of a VM under the control of a certain vCenter, while a category is a logical entity that may contain objects from multiple vCenters.
Thanks
