Backup V6 -Migrate

Post by axelklos »

HI,

today I installed v6 of Veeam backup and Replication and upgrade was really smooth.

I tested Quick Migrate and it looks fine during processing .. after restart virtual machine
I remarked that mac adress has changed ==> system received a new ip adress :(

is there a possible solution to fix it?

regards

Hi Axel, what is the Guest OS you're running on this VM?

Why new dynamic address is an issue for you? As long as DHCP updates DNS properly, this should not cause any problems.

Overall, this issue is not specific to migration, but also regular restores and replication. We have experimental functionality to preserve MAC address, however we found that it does not work for all VMs, because some VMs have incorrect MAC addresses set from beginning, and attempting to set it to the new VM fails (vSphere won't allow because they are from the wrong MAC address range). We keep researching this, as I am still hoping to put this into the product. At least, we could do this for "proper" addresses.

Thanks!

hi,

thanks .. if i used migration for powered off vms then I ip / macadresses will be keep.

we have some software which is bundled to mac address / ip address and that's the
reason to keep mac address.

for me migration means move virtual machine from host/datastore to another host/datastore
while all the configuration will not be changed.
