Application aware

Post by Kitkat »

Hi All,

I have a question around application aware (AA) best practice.
If you have say, 5vm servers in a cluster that you are backing up and only 1 of them is a SQL and therefore you want to enable AA for this. Would you put that SQL in it's own policy or apply AA on the root policy and combine all 5 servers in that one policy?

What would be a good practice please?
Thanks
Kit.

Hello Kit,

It's up to you, but, please keep in mind, that you can enable application processing for specific machines only

In addition to Dima's answer: I would enable Application Aware processing for all windows VMs; only that way you'll get consistent backups (compared to crash-consistent without AAP)

Now in terms of permissions. For AA to work, the 'veeam account' being used for backups must be local admin of the server?
