Hi
We have recently migrated VMs from a VMware host to another. The VMs are now residing on the new host and are offline on the old host.
We still have restore points for the VMs on the old host. If we would want to restore a VM from a restore point that is associated with VMs on the old host, is that still possible? Or do we need to keep the old host to be able to restore the older restore points?
best regards, Simon

Re: Restoring VM from old VMware host
You don‘t need the old host, todo a restore of a vm to the new host.
If you lost the entire host and have to rebuild everything, veeam must be able todo restore without the original Environment If veeam would not be able todo restores in this case, it would be a bad backup software

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110Select Restore to a new location, or with different settings if you want to restore VMs to a different location and/or with different settings (such as VM location, network settings, format of restored virtual disks and so on). If this option is selected, the Full VM Restore wizard will include additional steps for customizing VMs settings.

Re: Restoring VM from old VMware host
Hehe well when you put it that way it seems obvious
But for experiment I tried to restore guest files from the old VMs but got error that the VM was offline (which it is obviously). Shouldn't this be possible even though the VM is offline?

Re: Restoring VM from old VMware host
Guest file Restore can only be used to restore to the original vm, if you choose „keep“ or „overwrite“
„Entire vm restore“ or „instant vm recovery“ will work to the new host.
If you want to restore guest files, you can use the „Copy To“ feature in the veeam explorer or Choose explorer for browsing in the mounted restore Point with Windows Explorer and do your copy/past thing to the old destination.
